18 political parties to participate in Taraba local govt elections

Eighteen registered political parties have signified their interest to participate in the forthcoming local elections in .

The Chairman of the State Independent , TSIEC, Philip Duwe,

who disclosed this on Tuesday at a meeting with heads of media organisations in the state, also stated that over 2,222,000 eligible voters would be participating in the exercise.

Duwe said the figure was arrived at based on the assessment of the number of registered voters per Senatorial District.

He added that the TSIEC liaised with the Independent National Electoral Commission, , in the production of electoral materials needed for the .

According to him, the Commission held a meeting with representatives of the registered political parties where a suitable date for the election was decided.

The TSIEC chairman further disclosed that the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, would be supervising the political parties on the entire processes.

Duwe, who also announced that the Commission has issued guidelines to the political parties, said TSIEC has a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with INEC.

He said the MOU is aimed at easing the processes for the conduct of the local government elections, which he said have been slated for 18th November, 2023.

Affirming the Commission's readiness to conduct a free, fair and credible poll, Duwe said election materials would be made available to the 3,650 polling units spread across the 168 electoral wards of the state as at when due.
