INEC detects several double registrations in Continuous Voter Registration

INEC has detected many double, multiple and ineligible registration in the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, held between January 1 and July 31.

Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, made the declaration in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

He stated that the irregularities were discovered during the cleaning up of the voters register using the Automated Biometric Identification System, ABIS.

The ABIS for the period January 15 to July 31, 2022 is almost completed. Several double, multiple and ineligible registrants have also been detected and invalidated.

“These include entries that failed to meet the Commission’s business rules. The Commission takes this responsibility seriously because a credible register is at the heart of electoral integrity.

As soon as the process is concluded, the commission will provide the public with full information as usual.

“Thereafter, valid registrants will be added to the existing national register of voters before publishing same nationwide for scrutiny, claims and objections as required by the Electoral Act 2022.

“Similarly, Permanent Voters’ Cards for all valid registrants will be available for collection by the end of October and early November as promised,” he stated.

INEC had earlier declared that out of the 2,523,458 registration done between June 28, 2021 and January 14, 2022, records of 1,126,359 registrants were found to be invalid and they were consequently delisted.

The Supreme Court will today, September 29, 2022 will decide on the fate of Osun Governor-elect, Senator Adeleke Adeleke’s candidature.

naijablitznews.com recalls that Prince Dotun Babayemi a former aspirant and now dismissed member of Peoples Democratic Party, Osun chapter is seeking court redress over the authentic candidate between him and Senator Adeleke.

Senator Adeleke who was recognized authentic candidate by the PDP national working committee won the Osun July 16 governorship election against the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola.

But Prince Dotun Babayemi who was allegedly elected as the party’s flag bearer at a parallel congress is laying claim to be the authentic governorship candidate of Osun PDP.

Adeleke and PDP had defeated Prince Dotun Babayemi at the federal high court and appeal court.

Adeleke will be sworn-in as the executive governor of Osun on November 27, 2022.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the 2023 elections might make or break the nation.

Obasanjo also told leaders of the various religions in Nigeria not to allow politicians wreck Nigeria, saying the entire country would regret it if such is allowed.

Obasanjo stated this when the new President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, visited him at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In a statement Wednesday by his Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo pleaded that politicians should be made more responsible by religious leaders.

“If you stand on the truth, you stand for justice and equity, it is then the politicians will not be able to mess us around,” Obasanjo said, adding that “if we do not watch it, the politicians will wreck this country and we’ll all regret it.”

The former President wondered if there is anywhere else the nation can look for salvation, if not from God through the religious leaders.

Obasanjo described as a mistake of the past, especially in Christendom, claims that ‘politics is not for the righteous’.

“Now, if we take the righteous away from politics, and we leave politics to the unrighteous, the unrighteous will smear the righteous with the unrighteousness that they will carry into politics,” he said.

Obasanjo said the failure to be careful with the 2023 elections may break Nigeria.

“And in the next election, if we do not watch it, it may make or break Nigeria. And I pray that it will make Nigeria,” Obasanjo was quoted as saying.
