A 40-year-old trader identified as Nana Sammy has committed suicide by allegedly drinking a full bottle of weedicide after his wife denied him sex, breaking his heart.
The unfortunate incident occurred at Assin Kyinaso in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
Information gathered indicates the deceased had a couple of misunderstandings with his wife and eventually left the marriage with the children.
Unable to deal with his predicament, Nana Sammy decided to end his life by gulping down the weedicide.
Gyamfi, a brother of the deceased, in an interview, said that he had spoken with the deceased a night before, in which the deceased disclosed to him his unhappiness since his wife left the marriage with the children.
The next morning as he was passing by, he met the deceased in a pool of vomit and faeces with him lying in a recumbent position.
When inquired, the deceased confessed he had drunk poison to end his life due to the pain rendered by his wife.
He was rushed to Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital, where he passed on.
Gyamfi, however, stressed that the doctors are yet to confirm to them whether their brother died of the poison or something else.
The case has been reported to the Abura Dunkwa Police for investigation.
Teenager Stabs Friend To Death In Lagos
By Gloria Ikibah
A teenage boy by the name Daniel Akindele, has allegedly stabbed his friend, Ayo Bameke, to death during a fight over food at Abattoir Complex in the Agege area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Akindele and Bameke, alongside other friends, usually visited the complex to play football.
On the day of the incident, the duo and their friends visited the complex as usual.
Bameke was said to have left his friends to buy food.
He later returned to meet his friends at the complex and was said to be eating when Akindele, who was also hungry, requested to share in the food.
The request reportedly created an argument that degenerated into a scuffle between the two friends.
During the scuffle at the front of the Harmony Abattoir Management Services Limited, Bameke allegedly used a pair of scissors to injure Akindele.
A security guard with the company, Segun Ijaola, disclosed during a visit to the scene, said Akindele overpowered Bameke, collected the scissors, and stabbed him in the chest.
He said, “The teenagers were four in number and between the ages of 14 and 15 years. They are always together. Around 11am on that Saturday morning, they were in front of the Harmony Abattoir Management Services Limited. One of our female workers was on her way out to get something at the slab when she saw one of the boys (Bameke) lying on the ground.
“While trying to ascertain what was wrong with the boy, she beckoned on the three friends to ask what happened. In the process, she discovered that Bameke had been stabbed in the left side of his chest with a pair of maternity scissors. Upon realising that Bameke was lying motionless on the ground, Akindele tried escaping but the woman apprehended him.
“While questioning him, Akindele started confessing. He said Bameke was the one that used scissors to cut his hand before he collected the scissors and used it to stab the left side of his chest. Bameke was immediately rushed to Merit Hospital, Agege, by our company’s workers, but he was pronounced dead by the medical doctor. The corpse was taken to a mortuary.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that policemen attached to the Abattoir Police Station arrested the three friends, but during investigation, two of the suspects were released, while Akindele was detained.
During a visit to the station, an officer, who declined to give a progress report on the matter, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.
Hundeyin said, “Akindele was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on September 13, 2022, on the charge of murder. The magistrate ordered the teenager’s remand thereafter.”

DSS nabs soldier hiring and selling guns to kidnappers in Abuja
Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested a soldier attached to the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Tungan-Maje in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for allegedly hiring out and selling guns to kidnappers terrorising the City.
It was gathered that the operation that led to his arrest was carried out last week around Dankogi Park in Zuba in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the area.
According to Daily Trust, a vigilante source said that the DSS from Gwagwalada office sought the assistance of the local security group in Zuba to arrest the suspect based on previous arms deal allegations against him.
“It was learnt that the suspect, in the first deal, had allegedly hired out a gun for a kidnap operation for N300,000.
“Then in the second instance, they contacted him for another deal and he demanded N200,000 which the kidnappers allegedly paid, but he failed to produce the gun.’’
The source said when the kidnappers, who have been in the DSS custody, made the allegation against the soldier, a sting operation was planned against him.
“So they contacted him for another deal to supply them with AK-47s to buy at the cost of N3 million.
“We went to the agreed site on the delivery day here in Zuba, and took position. He arrived at the scene in his car to present the arm, and that was the time we came out and caught him with the gun well wrapped.’’
The source further informed our reporter that an AK-47 rifle, as well as a fully loaded magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition, was found inside one of the safe compartments of his car.
“We drove him to our office where a document was signed with the DSS and handed him over to them,’’ the source added.
It was further learnt that army officials from the headquarters in Abuja met the vigilantes in their Zuba office the next day where they took their statement on how the operation was carried out.
