Seventeen years after her marriage to actor Fred Amata ended, media entrepreneur and talk show host, Agatha Amata, says people still pray they reconcile.

Ms Amata, the CEO of RaveTV Lagos and Trend FM100.9, Asaba, divorced the famous actor in 2005.

They had two children, Oreva and Stephanie.

Three years after their divorce, her ex-husband welcomed a daughter, Zino, with actress and ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberisima, in London.

Ms Amata became famous for her talk show, ‘Inside Out with Agatha’, which is said to be the longest-running television talk show in Nigeria, airing for over twenty years.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo on the show #WithChude, Ms Amata opened up about single motherhood and how she handled the divorce, among other issues.

Getting back together
Ms Amata stated that, to date, some people still wish that she reunited with her ex-husband.

She said people asked her to get back together with the veteran actor and forsake some of her children.

“I know that everybody wishes you well, but I always say to people, you can’t expect me better than I want myself. So if on my wedding day, as I was dancing and rejoicing, I certainly had no plans to leave the marriage.”

Ms Amata, a graduate of Botany from the University of Jos, also said that nobody in their right mind gets married with the hopes of getting a divorce.

“Let me say clearly, an unhappy home can never breed happy children.

If anything, it is going to injure those children and their outlook and their approach to marriage. The best you can do is for both of you to try to remain friends, as difficult as it may be, which is what I tried to do,” she said.

Acknowledging that the marriage didn’t work, the CEO, who retained her ex-husband’s surname, said she would not beat herself about it for the rest of her life.

“Amata’s ex-wife. That’s the introduction. It doesn’t matter what. I’m sure that even if I remarry and they want to introduce me, they will say ‘the former wife of…’.”

Ms Amata, who grew up partly in Kano, said she has come to embrace it, acknowledge it and work with it.

Single motherhood
Speaking on the show, the 53-year-old media entrepreneur revealed that she put certain aspects of her life on hold to focus on raising her children.

She said she had no friends as everything about her life became about her children.

She said, “I stopped everything and focused on my children. If you look around, even in my office, their bed was there.

“Even when I sent them abroad to study, every month I was in their school. If they had Parents Day, I was there. They had anything they had to do, and I was there.”

Many Die In Bullion Van Accident

The Kebbi police command has confirmed the death of six people including three policemen in a multiple accident on Tuesday along Argungu-Birnin Kebbi road in the state.

The spokesman of the command, Abubakar Nafi’u, said in a statement on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.

“The accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying jerry cans of PMS was suspected to have been pursued by a Nigeria Custom Service patrol team from Birnin Kebbi.

“On getting to Jeda village, the Carina E car had a head on collision with the Bullion van, as a result, bursting into flames and consumed three other cars.

“Consequently, a total of five vehicles and one motorcycle were burnt to ashes.

“Six people including three policemen also died in the inferno, while five other people and three policemen sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Federal Medical Center, Birnin Kebbi for medical attention,” he said.

Mr Nafi’u said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji-Kontagora, had visited the accident scene.

“He prayed the Almighty Allah to grant the lives of the departed souls an eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Magaji-Kontagora is also assuring members of the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident,” he added.

Elderly Woman Falls On Her Knees To Pray For Peter Obi In Jos Rally

As political campaigns for the 2023 general elections commenced on Wednesday, a elderly woman has been captured praying for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, during a solidarity rally held in Jos, Plateau State.

The Director-General of the Obi-Datti Campaign organization, Doyin Okupe, in a tweet on Wednesday disclosed that the LP candidate and his vice, Datti Baba Ahmed, will attend the Jos rally although the party is yet to commence campaigns officially.

”Today in Jos, HE Peter Obi & his running mate Datti-Ahmed, will honour an invitation from the Middle Belt forum to attend a solidarity rally. We are yet to commence our own campaigns.

To comfort our students, We urge the FG to quickly resolve the lingering ASSU Crisis,” the tweet read.

Amongst persons seen at the venue to welcome the LP flag bearer was an elderly woman on her knees in the midst of other supporters praying for Peter Obi at the Rwang Pam Stadium Jos, Plateau state.

UNIBEN releases post-UTME, DE screenings date

The University of Benin has fixed dates for its Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry screenings for 2022/2023 session.

The university in a notice by its Registrar, Ademola Bobola on Wednesday in Benin, said the exercise would hold between Nov. 14 and 25.

Bobola said the screening would be conducted in designated centres at the Ugbowo main campus of the institution, using the Computer Based Test mode.

“Only candidates who applied through JAMB for the 2022/2023 UTME and Direct Entry admission and chose the University of Benin as First Choice and scoring 200 and above for UTME candidates are eligible for this screening exercise,” the registrar said.

Bobola, however, referred admission seekers to the institution to the university’s official website.
