Woman abandons one month-old baby in a bus

An unidentified woman has abandoned a one-month old baby boy in a bus in Anambra State.

It has not been ascertained why she abandoned the baby, who is currently in the custody of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC) in the state.

In a statement in Awka, the NSCDC called on members of the public to assist in locating the mother of the child, who it added, was handed over to member of staff of the corps since September 6 when the incident happened.

The statement by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Edwin Okadigbo read: “Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command requests the assistance of the public in locating the relatives, parents or mother of a baby boy estimated to be about a month old who was recovered by a staff of the corps after being abandoned seemingly by its mother in a bus.

“The baby was handed over to a staff of the corps on the 6th of September 2022 at about 0900hrs after the mother who she boarded same bus with, alighted at a bus stop in a bid to ease herself along Ziks Avenue by Amawbia Correctional Service Awka.

“After about three hours wait and search, the baby was recovered by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command.

“The infant after necessary medical attention, is currently kept at a place of safety while the tracing of his unknown parents and relatives continue. A case of abandoned child has been opened and currently under investigation.

“Anyone who knows of a woman or parents who recently gave birth, but is suddenly without the child, or knows relatives of the infant is urged to contact Intelligence and Investigation department of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command on – 08068526902 or 0902 4941882 during office hours”.

Ebonyi man hacks mother to death for reporting him to village youths

A 32-year-old man, Arinze Chukwu, has been arrested by the police for hacking his mother to death with an axe in Ndieze community, Okpoto Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The suspect was said to have killed his 60-year-old mother after she reported him to the village youths to be reprimanded for his bad behaviours.

According to The Nation, the youths beat up the suspect and tied him up at the village square.
Upon his release by the youths, the suspect was said to have attacked his mother with an axe out of anger on September 17, 2022.

The aged father of the suspect, Anthony Chukwu, confirmed that his son killed his wife because she reported his misdeeds to the village youths.

Acting on the complaint of the deceased, Anthony said that the village youths caught Arinze, tied up his hands and feet, beat him up and then left him in the sun for hours at the village square.

“That boy (Arinze) is my eighth child from my wife whom he just killed. I was not at home at the time it happened but I know he killed my wife because she reported him to our village youth association. She did not hate him.

She made a report to the association to stop his bad behaviour. At the village square, the youths punished him by tying his hands and feet and then beat him up. They later left him in the sun for hours to correct him.” the father narrated.

“When he was being dragged to the village square, he threatened to kill me and my wife for reporting him. Luckily for me, I was not at home when they released him. But he met my wife and killed her with an axe and fled. I never knew he was serious about the threat until I came back and saw my wife in a pool of blood.”

The police on receipt of the complaint, promptly arrested Arinze. He was charged to court for murder last week.

The court turned down the plea of the defendant. The trial Magistrate, Blessing Ibeabuchi-Chukwu, ordered that Arinze be remanded at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned till October 10, 2022.

10 teachers killed, 50 others kidnapped in Kaduna – ASUSS

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Kaduna State chapter, has disclosed that bandits have killed about 10 teachers and abducted about 50 others in the State.

Ishaya Dauda, the Chairman, ASUSS Kaduna State chapter, who made the revelation, advised Governor Nasir El-Rufai to employ every means that is possible to ensure the release of all teachers and other victims still in captivity in different camps in the State.

Briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday, as part of activities to commemorate the 2022 World Teachers’ Day with the theme, “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers”, he lamented that “more than 10 secondary school teachers were killed and over 50 others abducted from January till date in Kaduna and the abducted teachers are still in captivity.”

According to him, the union is fully aware of the insecurity that is threatening the corporate existence of Kaduna State citizens, especially in the schools, urging the State government to take proactive actions towards bringing the menace to an end.

The union stated that it is equally aware of efforts being made by the State government towards the recruitment of Kaduna State vigilante service to secure the schools against the incessant attacks by terrorists.
