Williams also hailed Ronaldo’s ‘massive influence’ at Old Trafford, saying that the Portugal captain talks to everybody in the dressing room.

The 22-year-old spent the 2021-2022 season on loan at Norwich City and returned to the Man United squad this summer.

He is yet to play his first match of the season for Erik ten Hag’s side, but the England youngster is even happy to train alongside someone like Ronaldo.

Speaking to The Sportsman, Williams said: “I wasn’t there when he first came back, but since I’ve come back, he’s been a massive influence. He always talks to me. He makes sure that he doesn’t leave anybody out. He just talks to everybody. He’s not ‘I’m the superstar here, I’m not going to talk to anyone.’”

He added: “He gives me advice. He talks to me. He has a joke with me. It’s just normal stuff. When you have a colleague that’s a footballer because, at the end of the day, he’s a colleague of mine.”

Smalling scored the winner in the 78th-minute after heading home from Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free-kick as Roma jump to fourth in the Serie A table.

Inter were looking to bounce back from a poor run of form while AS Roma were without their manager, José Mourinho who was suspended for three matches following his red card from the Atalanta match.

Federico Dimarco had opened the scoring for Inter after 30 minutes but Roma equalized nine minutes later when Paulo Dybala volleyed home from an acute angle.

Inter Millan had better goal-scoring chances in the game, Hakan Çalhanoglu hit the bar from a free-kick in the 62nd minute, while former Roma striker Eden Dzeko had thought he had opened the scoring in the 11th minute only for his strike to be ruled out by VAR.

The win means Roma are now four points behind leaders Napoli while Inter remain in seventh, eight points off the top having lost four of their eight Serie A matches so far this season.
