Police Explain How 29-year-Old Married Man Allegedly Kill Abuja Girlfriend Over Abortion

A 29-year-old married man, Douglas Tamunokopo, is standing trial before Justice C.O Agbaza at the High Court, Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Udo Abigail, for committing an abortion without his consent.

it was gathered that the deceased was in a romantic relationship with Tamunokopo when she got pregnant.

Abigail later found out that the defendant already had a family with two children in River State. After the discovery, she reportedly terminated the pregnancy.

Punch Report That The development, however, led to a heated argument that degenerated into a fight between lovers.

A source said after the fight, the defendant left for work, while Abigail was left in the room.

The source explained that when Abigail did not come out of the defendant’s room, neighbours became curious, and when they found their way inside Tamunokopo’s room, they saw the deceased sitting on a chair, with a rope hung on a nail on the wall, and tied around her neck.

Tamunokopo was later arrested and charged to court for allegedly killing Abigail.

cThe charge read in part, “That you, Douglas Tamunokopo, on September 1, 2016, around 3pm, at the Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja, in the Abuja Judicial Division, did cause the death of your girlfriend, Udo Abigail, by strangulating her to death.”

The prosecutor, Wale Adeagbo, said that the offense was punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The investigative police officer, Inspector Thomas Zephaniah, was led in evidence by Adeagbo.

Zephaniah told the court that on September 1, 2016, while on duty, there was a distress call from Mogadishu Barracks that an incident had happened there.

The officer said, “The officer in charge of the Homicide Section mobilised a team of police officers with me as an investigating police officer, to the scene where the incident occurred.

“There was a scene of purported suicide committed by a young lady. When the room of the accused person was opened, I saw a young lady seated on a plastic chair, with a rope of multiple entanglements tied to her neck, and a rope tied to a five-inch nail on the wall.

“The scene was photographed, the fingerprint was lifted, and the rope untied from the neck of the body. The corpse was thereafter moved to the National Hospital for examination. We approached the naval base of the defendant seeking his whereabouts, and we were told he was with them.

Thereafter relaying what had happened to them at the naval base, they said an internal investigation would be carried out, and if found wanting, the defendant would be released to the police. On September 2, 2022, the defendant was handed over to the police for further investigation.”

According to Zephaniah, an autopsy was carried out, and from the autopsy report, the cause of the death was asphyxia and strangulation caused by the defendant.

Documents were sought to be tendered through the witness, and the defence counsel, M.E Ogbonna, had no objection. The documents were thereafter admitted in evidence by the Judge as an exhibit in the matter.

Men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have sealed a multi-billion naira hotel in Osubi, Okpe local government area of Delta State.

Investigation revealed that the hotel is said to belong to the embattled governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori.

Two suspected Boko Haram collaborators arrested in Kaduna while attempting to withdraw N14m deposited into account of terrorist financier

The Nigerian military has arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators at a new generation bank in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, made this known during the bi-weekly media briefing on military operations across the country held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 22.

According to Danmadami, the suspects were arrested by troops of operation Hadin Kai while they were attempting to withdraw the sum of N14m deposited into the account of a suspected terrorist financier identified as Alhaji Abubakar.

“Troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI have continued to intensify offensive actions against terrorists and other criminal elements in their operational environment,” he stated.

“On 15 September 2022, troops arrested 2 suspected terrorists collaborators at bank in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State while trying to withdraw the sum of Fourteen Million Naira (14,000,000.00) deposited into the account of one Alhaji Abubakar, a suspected terrorist financier.”

Tension As Undergraduate Kills Both Parents, Leaves Decomposing Corpse In Room

An unnamed man, said to be an undergraduate of a university within Anambra State has allegedly killed his father and mother.

The incident happened in Nnewi, Anambra State, and the already decomposing corpses were found in their room on Thursday night.

A source said the corpses were discovered by neighbours, who started perceiving offensive smell, before discovering the decomposing bodies of the man and his wife, who were said to have been killed by their only son.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police command said it has launched a manhunt for the man.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said: “The Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng described the discovery of the already decomposing dead bodies in an apartment in Nnewi on 22/9/2022 at about 5:20pm with machete cuts, as act of man’s inhumanity to man.

“He has ordered immediate manhunt of the suspect. He further directs immediate transfer of the case to State Criminal investigation department for discreet investigation.”

Meanwhile, the decomposing bodies have been recovered and deposited in the morgue.
