Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to host a pivotal series of diplomatic engagements in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, from June 10–12, 2025.
The events include the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of FOCAC Outcomes and the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.
Minister Wang, a senior member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, will welcome delegations from all 54 African FOCAC partners.
The meetings aim to evaluate progress made since the most recent FOCAC Summit and to deepen collaborative frameworks that support modernization efforts across Africa.
Nigeria has confirmed high-level participation, with Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar indicating his intent to attend, accompanied by senior government officials and a delegation of influential business leaders, as such their presence signals Nigeria’s strong interest in reinforcing bilateral cooperation with China, especially across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, technology, and trade facilitation.
“Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will host African foreign ministers and delegates, including Nigeria’s Minister Yusuf Tuggar, during high-level diplomatic and trade engagements in Changsha, Hunan Province. The meetings mark a critical step in advancing outcomes from the most recent FOCAC Summit.”
The Changsha events are expected to reinforce China’s six cooperation proposals and ten partnership initiatives outlined by President Xi Jinping last year ranging from trade, education, and green development to public health and digital innovation.
With both symbolic and strategic value, these gatherings are being positioned as a reaffirmation of South-South solidarity amid global geopolitical shifts.
For African nations, the focus will be on tangible results, actionable projects, and long-term investment traction under the FOCAC framework.
I will be reporting from the ground in Hunan as part of the Foreign Journalists delegated by CIPCC to provide insights into the high-level dialogues, Africa-facing trade deals, and voices shaping this next chapter in China-Africa relations.
