The Special Joint Session is set to take place in the House Chamber at the National Assembly, beginning at 11:00am. Opening activities will occur before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, arrives at noon.
This year’s Democracy Day is themed:
“26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
President Tinubu is expected to be in attendance as the Special Guest of Honour and will address both chambers during the event.
Former leaders of the National Assembly will also give goodwill messages, and the President will present national honours to selected lawmakers during the gathering.
This session marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s democratic history. It highlights the ongoing role of the legislature in defending democracy, promoting transparency, and contributing to national growth over nearly three decades of civilian rule.
The House is calling on all citizens to use this occasion to reflect on the democratic journey, reignite their national pride, and commit to building a more unified and thriving country.
