As Nigeria celebrates her 65th Independence anniversary, the Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has congratulated the nation and its people, calling for renewed faith in the Nigerian project and unity in the face of challenges.

In a goodwill message signed by its Convener, Kakaki Bassange, Chief Jacob Edi, the group described the anniversary as a moment for deep reflection on the country’s journey of nationhood.

“The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) warmly congratulates the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the good people of our beloved nation on yet another historic occasion of our 65th Independence Anniversary. This occasion offers us another opportunity to reflect on our collective journey of nationhood,” the statement read.

The NNMG noted that over six and a half decades, Nigeria’s unity had been tested but the resilience of its citizens had ensured the survival of the federation.

“Over the last six and a half decades, our unity and resolve to remain as one indivisible nation have been tested repeatedly.

“We remain solid and unwavered. Our resilience, patience, and shared hope in the destiny of Nigeria have sustained us. We must salute the countless Nigerians who, in the face of adversity, have remained committed to the ideals of unity, peace, and progress. This is the core foundation upon which our nation is built,” the group stated.

Paying tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers and past leaders, the group acknowledged their sacrifices alongside the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians, describing them as the “cornerstone of Nigeria’s endurance.”

The NNMG also commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, and noted that his policies demonstrated a genuine commitment to Nigeria’s stability and progress.

“The NNMG also salute the courage and vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose policies and leadership choices have signposted his commitment to place the progress and long-term survival and stability of Nigeria above political considerations.

“His boldness in tackling difficult national issues is a testament to statesmanship and a clear expression of his faith in the future of this our dear country,” it declared.

Reaffirming its belief in the Nigerian spirit, the group said diversity and resilience were key to national survival.

“As we celebrate 65 years of independence, we must not forget that what has held us together is far greater than the forces that seek to divide us. Our diversity, resilience, and our shared hope remains the major ingredient of the Nigerian spirit and a propeller towards a brighter future.”

The group called on citizens to recommit themselves to the ideals of nationhood, and urged Nigerians to unite behind a common vision.

“The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group calls on all Nigerians to be purpose driven, renew their faith in the Nigerian project, stand united, and work collectively towards building a Nigeria that truly fulfils the dreams and aspirations of its founding fathers.

“Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria”, Chief Edi said.
