The House of Representatives will on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, hold a Special Plenary Session fully dedicated to examining Nigeria’s national security challenges and sharpening Parliament’s legislative response to both current and emerging threats.
This was contained in an official statement issued in Abuja on Monday, by the House Spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi.
According to the statement, “The House of Representatives will convene a Special Plenary Session on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, dedicated solely to reviewing Nigeria’s national security situation and strengthening the legislative response to current and emerging threats.”
The session, to be led by the Speaker, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, will feature presentations from key committees with security mandates.
The statement noted that the sitting “will consider consolidated internal assessments and receive presentations from the Committees on Defence; National Security and Intelligence; Police Affairs; Interior; and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness.”
Regional and zonal Caucus Leaders are also scheduled to deliver structured briefings on developments across the six geopolitical zones.
Lawmakers are expected to use the session to reflect on security realities within their constituencies and contribute meaningfully to what the House describes as a constructive national dialogue.
The deliberations, the statement added, “will culminate in the adoption of a comprehensive Security Resolution outlining coordinated actions and oversight benchmarks.”
In line with its pledge to maintain transparency and strengthen public confidence, the House confirmed that the entire proceedings will be open to Nigerians.
“Consistent with the commitment of the 10th Assembly to openness and public trust, the proceedings will be broadcast live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and on the official Facebook page of the House of Representatives @HouseNGR”, the statement further read.
Reaffirming the legislature’s central duty, the statement added: “The House remains steadfast in its duty to promote unity, faith, peace, and progress in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
