Mary Onah, a Benue State woman, has finally returned home after spending several months in a Lagos prison over crimes she reportedly had no knowledge of.
Mary was employed as a secretary by a fraudulent employer and, unaware of her boss’s illegal dealings, found herself in detention with no one to defend her or provide legal support.
During her incarceration, she gave birth, a development that has drawn widespread sympathy and highlighted the vulnerability of women seeking honest work away from home.
Her case has reignited concerns about the risks faced by Benue women who migrate in search of employment, with many falling victim to circumstances beyond their control, a situation reminiscent of previous high-profile cases such as Iwanger.
