Nollywood actress Angela Okorie remanded in prison over alleged cybercrime

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State following her arraignment on alleged cyber-related offences.

Okorie was arrested on Tuesday in Lagos by operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and subsequently transferred to Abuja for prosecution.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed on Wednesday that the actress was taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.

Filmmaker Ajemba Stanley, a close associate of Okorie, confirmed that she had been charged to court and remanded.

In a series of social media posts, Stanley criticised the handling of the case, calling it “an abuse of power.”

“You arrested Angela Okorie at midnight, flew her to Abuja by 6am, and this morning took her to court, where she was remanded in Suleja prison,” Stanley wrote.

He urged the authorities to follow due legal process and allow competent courts to handle the matter.

While police have not officially disclosed the exact charges, sources suggest the case may be linked to Okorie’s ongoing feud with fellow actress Mercy Johnson.

The dispute escalated last year following Okorie’s controversial remarks about Johnson’s health, which drew significant public attention.

As of this report, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor Okorie’s representatives have provided further details regarding the allegations.
