In observance of Presidents’ Day, the United States (US) Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed today, February 16, 2026.
Presidents’ Day is observed on the third Monday of February annually in the United States as a federal holiday.
Presidents’ Day was originally established to honour the birthday of George Washington, the U.S first president, but it is now observed to celebrate all her presidents and their contributions to the nation’s history.
The mission announced the closure in a notice posted on its official X page on Sunday
It also highlighted the global influence of U.S. presidents and shared a historical note that George Washington created the first “Badge of Military Merit,” which later evolved into the Purple Heart medal, still bearing Washington’s image today.
