Ramadan Bombings in Maiduguri ‘Heinous and Unfortunate’ — Speaker Abbas Mourns Victims

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the latest bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as tragic and wholly condemnable.

Suspected terrorists on Monday night targeted areas around Monday Market and a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The explosions, which occurred at about 7.02 pm, left several people dead and others injured, though the exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed.

Reacting to the development, the Speaker said, “The attacks are heinous, condemnable, and unfortunate.”

He lamented that such acts of violence were carried out during the Holy Month of Ramadan, stressing that it underscores the nature of the perpetrators.

According to him, “It is unfortunate that the suspected terrorists continued with their destructive activities, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. It has further confirmed that the terrorists are not only against Islam but also humanity.”

Speaker Abbas called for a united national response to insecurity, urging all stakeholders to work together to end terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality across the country. He also appealed to security agencies to intensify their operations and take firmer action against those responsible for such attacks.

The Speaker extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones in the blasts and offered prayers for the quick recovery of those injured.
