Troops and and local vigilantes have foiled an attack by bandits who invaded Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Sources in the community revealed that the attack occurred at about 7pm when the gunmen stormed parts of the town, causing residents to scamper for safety amid fears of possible abductions.
However, a swift joint response by local vigilante groups, police operatives and soldiers of the Nigerian Army forced the attackers to retreat after a brief confrontation.
According to residents, security operatives quickly mobilised to the area following distress calls from locals who noticed the presence of the armed men moving towards the community.
A source familiar with the incident stated that the combined efforts of the security agencies and the vigilantes prevented what could have turned into a major kidnapping operation.
“The bandits have run away. For now there is no report of any kidnapping. They have chased the bandits out of the town and the security operatives are pursuing them right now,” the source said.
The source added that residents are currently praying that no one was abducted or injured during the attempted attack.
“We pray that there are no casualties and that no one has been taken away by the bandits,” the source added.
