Police Arrested Man for Killing Driver, Selling Minibus in Rivers

The operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old man, Kelechi Wufurum, for allegedly killing a commercial minibus driver, Ifeanyi Abobo, and selling his vehicle in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred in Ubima community, where the 51-year-old driver was lured under the guise of a transport job, unaware of the suspect’s intentions.

Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed the development on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt, explaining that the suspect attacked the victim following a confrontation.

According to her, Wufurum struck the driver with an object and later used a cutlass during the struggle, leaving the victim fatally injured before fleeing with the minibus. The vehicle was subsequently sold for about ₦2.4 million, along with the victim’s mobile phone.

Following a report of the incident, the police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect. Those who allegedly bought the stolen vehicle and phone were also taken into custody.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he had deceived the driver with a fake job offer before attacking him and making away with his vehicle.

Police say further investigations are ongoing as authorities work to conclude the case.
