South African police have arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 25-year-old e-hailing driver in Cape Town.
The (SAPS) said the suspects — two women and three men — allegedly abducted the driver after he went to meet one of the women, whom he had met through his e-hailing business.
According to a statement released by SAPS on Sunday, Steenberg police rescued the victim after his brother alerted authorities that the suspects had contacted him and demanded R4,000 for his release. 
Police said officers tracked the victim through his vehicle’s tracker and located him at Southampton Road in Heathfield.
The suspects were identified as two women, aged 23 and 34, and three males aged 16, 42 and 48.
SAPS said the victim had met one of the female suspects the previous week while working as an e-hailing driver.
The two reportedly exchanged telephone numbers and remained in communication before arranging to meet.
Police said the situation changed when the driver arrived for the meeting.
“When he went to meet her, he was kidnapped by the suspects and the females raped him,” police said.
The victim was subsequently held for ransom, with the suspects allegedly demanding money from his brother before police intervened.
All five suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The allegations will be tested in court, and the suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty.
