Halimat Omidina, daughter of late veteran Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has recalled how her father told her he would die two days before his death.
Halimat, a model and content creator, shared the painful memory on her X handle, @superstarrlimaa, on Saturday while commemorating what would have been Baba Suwe’s 68th birthday.
In a tribute to the late actor, she reflected on how different the occasion had become without her father and the celebrations they once shared. 
“Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt,” she wrote.
Halimat said she regretted not making more memories with her father and wished she had held him more closely after he spoke about his impending death.
“I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die. May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus,” she added.
She later provided more details about the final days of the actor, saying Baba Suwe had directly told her that he was going to die.
According to Halimat, she did not believe him at the time because she assumed he was only joking.
“This could’ve been my mood today. Someone asked if Daddy ever told me he was going to die. Yes, he did. Two days before, he told me, but I laughed it off. I thought he was joking,” she wrote.
The following day, Halimat said she was asked to return home after her father’s condition worsened.
By the time she got home, she said Baba Suwe had lost the ability to speak and died about an hour later.
“The next day, I got a call to come home. He couldn’t talk anymore, and an hour later, he passed,” she added.
Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, aged 63, after a career spanning several decades in the Yoruba film industry.
He was widely recognised for his energetic comic performances and featured in several popular Yoruba films, including Iru Esin, Baba Londoner, Oju Oloju and Baba Jaiye Jaiye. Baba Suwe told me he would die two days before his death, daughter recalls
