The media had earlier reported that the private jet, identified as a CL60 with registration number T7-SEI and flight identification DWC052, was travelling from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos when the incident occurred on Thursday.

According to an incident report, the crew informed air traffic control that a door had opened during the flight at about 4:20 p.m.

The approach radar controller subsequently directed the aircraft to return to Abuja, where it made an emergency landing.

A social media influencer, @ChuksEricE, also shared a video of the aircraft and the detached door on his X account. The door was reportedly found in a local farm where it fell.

The incident has raised concerns about aviation safety and the maintenance of private charter aircraft in Nigeria.

A door opening or detaching during flight can pose serious safety risks, depending on the aircraft’s design, the location of the door and the circumstances of the incident.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of the earlier report.

The media could not immediately establish whether any passengers or crew members sustained injuries during the incident.

The cause of the reported door failure remains unclear, and it was not immediately known whether investigators had established what led to the incident.
