The Nigerian Embassy in Hungary has stepped up efforts to secure more educational opportunities for Nigerian youths following a visit to the University of Dunaújváros (DUE) as part of its ongoing Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship drive.
The Nigerian delegation, led by Ambassador Abasi Braimah Ogwime, included the embassy’s Social Secretary, Dr Erika Madarász, and Daniel Etawo. They were received by the university’s management team, led by the Vice-Rector for Institutional Development and General Affairs, Dr Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár.
Other university officials at the meeting were the Vice-Rector for Education, Dr László Balázs; Director of International Relations, Kitti Szabó; Director of Strategic Relations, József Fritz; and Social Relations Officer, Csaba Papp.
Discussions focused on the university’s international degree programmes, scholarship opportunities under the Stipendium Hungaricum scheme and the support services available to international students.
The visit also included a tour of the institution’s facilities, including its laboratories, where the Nigerian delegation interacted with lecturers and Nigerian students to learn more about academic activities and student life at the university.
According to the university, 11 Nigerian students are currently enrolled at DUE, six of whom are beneficiaries of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.
Most of the Nigerian students are studying Computer Engineering, while others are pursuing degrees in Business Administration and Management, as well as Communication and Media Science.
The embassy said the visit was part of its continuing efforts to strengthen academic cooperation between Nigeria and Hungary and create more opportunities for Nigerian students to access quality education through Hungary’s scholarship programmes.
The Stipendium Hungaricum initiative provides a pathway for international students to pursue higher education in Hungary, while engagements such as the visit to DUE allow Nigerian officials to explore available programmes and understand the support institutions offer foreign students.
The embassy’s engagement with the university is expected to further its efforts to connect Nigerian youths with international study and training opportunities.
