ADC Kwara: Basambo Resigned to Avoid Disciplinary Action, Party Says

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kwara State chapter, has said the resignation of Abubakar Basambo from the party was not unexpected, alleging that concerns had earlier been raised over his conduct and commitment to the party’s principles.

The party, in a statement signed by its Kwara State Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Bolaji Alege, said Basambo resigned after its leadership and Council of Elders initiated internal disciplinary procedures against him.

Alege said Basambo’s decision to resign before the process was concluded was a personal choice and should not be interpreted as a sign of division or weakness within the party.

According to him, the ADC is founded on discipline, integrity, accountability and collective responsibility, with no individual considered bigger than the party.

“For some time, concerns had been raised regarding Mr. Basambo’s conduct and commitment to the ideals of the party. These concerns prompted the party’s leadership and Council of Elders to initiate established internal disciplinary procedures.

“Rather than allow that process to run its course, he chose to resign,” the statement said.

The party maintained that it would not compromise its principles or sacrifice accountability for individual interests or political convenience.

It said the ADC remained focused on building a credible political alternative for the people of Kwara State and Nigeria, anchored on transparent, people-oriented leadership.

The party called on members and the public to continue supporting the ADC, saying it remained united and determined to provide Kwarans with what it described as credible, competent and accountable leadership.
