Police parade 13 kidnap suspects, recover explosives

The Anambra State Police Command said it recovered no fewer than 20 improvised explosive devices, rifles, and other exhibits during several operations carried out in different parts of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Nnaghe Itam, disclosed this to journalists in Awka, during a press briefing on Friday, adding that police operatives and other sister agencies carried out the operations.

During the briefing, the CP also paraded 13 suspects who he said were arrested in different parts of the state for various offenses such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related crimes.

While parading the suspects, Itam gave their names to include: Emeka Okolo (aged 29), from lhiala, Anambra State; Uchenna John (aged 21), from Ebonyi State; Victor Iniukpong (aged 31), from Akwa Ibom State, who were arrested while trying to disconnect the tracker of a car belonging to a victim whom they kidnapped on July 15 at Nimo community in Njikoka LGA of Anambra, where they also shot one person dead during the incident.

Itam noted that the arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects; he also announced that the police operatives and other sister security agencies recovered about 20 improvised explosive devices, in different parts of the state, where the gunmen strategically positioned them for detonation.

He added, “The recovered bombs include: attacking Mile IED (recovered from ESN Camp at Ugbenu, close to Isuaniocha in Awka North LGA); attacking Mile IED (recovered from Aguluezechukwu ESN Camp); six light-and-spark IEDs (recovered from Ogbunka ESN Camp); nine light-and-spark IEDs (recovered from ESN Camp); and two light-and-spark IEDs (recovered from a vehicle abandoned by ESN along Ogbunka axis).”

Nigerian Woman Arrested, Detained In Libyan Capital With 2Kg Of Cocaine

According to the report, the woman was apprehended during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling drug networks in the Libyan capital.

A Nigerian woman has been arrested by the 444th Combat Brigade during a sting operation in Tripoli, Libya, for allegedly possessing an estimated 2 kilogrammes of cocaine.

It was gathered that the woman, in collaboration with foreign accomplices, attempted to distribute the drugs on the local market.

Migrant Rescue Watch, a humanitarian monitoring group, disclosed the arrest on Saturday via their X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to the report, the woman was apprehended during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling drug networks in the Libyan capital.

The suspect is currently in custody following the completion of preliminary criminal investigations.

The statement read, “Units of 444th Combat Brig. during sting-operation in Tripoli arrested a female of Nigerian nationality in possession of est. 2 kg of cocaine. The accused in collaboration with foreign accomplices attempted to sell the drugs on the local market. #Frontex

“Following completion of criminal investigation the accused female remains in custody and the case was referred to public prosecution.”

Insecurity: Police recover eight explosives in Borno

The Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal(EOD) Unit, on Friday, recovered unexploded military ordnances in Maiduguri following reports from vigilant residents.

This was revealed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday.

The statement disclosed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team was deployed to secure the affected areas.

“All ordnances were safely evacuated without any loss of life, injury, or property damage, and normalcy has been restored.

“In the Dala Kacchallah area, the operatives recovered six (6) unexploded projectiles and one (1) mortar bomb near an uncompleted building. Reports indicate that the items, washed ashore by recent flooding, were abandoned by local scavengers.

“Similarly, at the Gwange Riverbank, a military hand grenade was discovered. In both instances, the EOD-CBRN team safely removed the ordnances, declared the areas safe, and conducted explosive risk awareness campaigns to sensitize residents.

“Commending the professionalism and prompt response of the EOD-CBRN Unit, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, NPM has assured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security.

The IGP also noted that the EOD team in Borno State has been consistent in responsiveness and professionalism in preventing series of calamities as many IEDs have been safely recovered in many instances within the state. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the recovered items and to prevent future occurrences.

“The Inspector-General of Police urges members of the public to refrain from handling suspicious objects and to promptly report such discoveries to the police. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mandate to protect lives and property across Maiduguri and its environs,” the statement read.

Anambra Police arrest native doctor, one other for armed robbery, kidnapping

The police in Anambra arrested a witch doctor and one other suspect for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

The suspects according to a statement by the state police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, said their arrest was made possible following the testimony of a rescued victim who led the police to their hideout.

The victim was said to have been lured to the location initiated by another suspect who is at large before he was abducted on gunpoint, before being moved to a shrine.

The arrested suspects are said to have confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the police with information for possible arrest of other gang members.

One pump action gun was said to have been recovered from the suspects as well as the victim,s vehicle and other incriminating items.
