Otunba Showunmi Dumps Gauntlet In Battle For PDP National Chairmanship
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
The former Governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has begun the campaign for the national championship position of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming National Convention of the party.
Making his desire to vie for the exalted position of the PDP national chairman’s seat, Showunmi in a chat with some selected senior political correspondents, said:
“My unalloyed loyalty, commitment, dedication, sacrifice, time and energy to our dear party over the last two decades obviously gave me the conviction and opportunity to make a declaration about my aspiration to contest for the office of the PDP national chairman in the coming convention.
“I consider this noble ambition important because I have the prerequisite experience and qualifications to drive the party and ultimately take it out of being an opposition party to a ruling party once again. Frankly, my relationship with PDP can be likened to that of an umbilical cord, which is physically and emotionally connected between mother and fetus.
“Without sounding immodest, this is the only half chance the PDP has. The level of reform required is not what the others will do, the clarity of how to go about it, I know, and the urgency is not lost on me. This is no time for business as usual. I have the capacity and enablement to change the narrative, and this will ultimately endear our party to the citizenry across the board.” Showunmi stated.
Justifying the prove that Otunba Showunmi holds all the aces in this contest, records have it that youths under the auspices of the Youth Wing of the Peoples Democratic Party, also threw their weights and endorsed Otunba Showunmi, to emerge National Chairman of the Party ahead of the upcoming convention.
They said their declaration and public endorsement of him is a way to show that he is their choice and hope to galvanize the entire Party.
They pointed out that as a distinguished politician, Showunmi’s outstanding and unique contributions to uphold the party above troublous waters based on his vision, love and commitment to the party will help to take the party to its place of pride, adding that he is the best man for the job at a time like this.
