Tinubu will lift Rivers emergency rule as soon as possible , FG assures

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lift the state of emergency in Rivers State as soon as normalcy is restored, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured.
The Minister gave this assurance in an interview with The Nation:
“As soon as he assesses that sanity has returned to Rivers State, he will ensure the restoration of all democratic structures in that state,” he added.
Idris assured that Tinubu remains committed to ensuring Rivers State returns to full democratic governance as soon as possible.
“The President will not wait a minute longer than necessary,” he said.
The Minister emphasised that Tinubu had no intention of taking over the governance of the state or appointing a Governor.
“The President has no intention whatsoever to take over the governance of Rivers State. He has no intention to be or to appoint a governor for Rivers State,” he said.
Idris defended the President’s decision, describing it as “a very responsible but very painful” action taken in line with constitutional provisions.
According to him, governance in Rivers State had completely broken down with the Assembly non-functional and the executive arm facing serious challenges.
“The way democracy is designed in this country is that the three arms of government must work together, and one will be checking the other.
“So, we cannot have just the executive functioning and say we have a functional democracy. We didn’t have that, and therefore, the President had to act,” he explained.
The Minister maintained that the President acted within his constitutional powers to prevent the state from descending further into violence and lawlessness.
According to him: “Those who designed our constitution envisaged that this kind of situation could arise, and that was why they made the provision for it. The President relied on the constitution to exercise his powers and take action.”

Eid El Fitr, a Time of Renewal and Reflection – CAJ President

By Gloria Ikibah
The President of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has said the Eid El Fitr celebrations should be a time for reflection, renewal, and rejoicing.
In a statement, Isiguzo extended heartfelt and warm greetings to Muslim journalists across the African continent as they join the global Muslim Ummah in marking the occasion.
He acknowledged the significance of Eid El Fitr, and emphasised that it is “not only the conclusion of a month of fasting and prayer, but also a celebration of the strength, discipline, and devotion demonstrated by Muslims in their faith.
“Your commitment to your religious duties, despite the challenges of our modern world, stands as an inspiration to all,” he said.
The CAJ President, who is also a former national President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, underscored the critical role journalists play in shaping narratives, offering a voice to the voiceless, and conveying the truth to society.
“As journalists, you are at the forefront of shaping narratives and offering a voice to the voiceless. Your role in both challenging and joyous times is invaluable,” he added.
Comrade Isiguzo therefore encouraged Muslim journalists to use the period of Eid to reflect on shared values of humanity, compassion, and unity, while also recognising the importance of their work in serving society.
“The stories we tell and the truths we uncover are part of our service to society and our greater responsibility to humanity,” he noted.
He prayed for peace and unity across Africa, urging journalists to continue working towards a brighter future.
The CAJ President further extended well-wishes to all Muslims, particularly journalists, across Africa.
“May this Eid inspire you to continue working towards a future where peace, unity, and understanding prevail across our great continent.
“May Allah accept your prayers, reward your sacrifices, and grant you health, happiness, and success in all your endeavors”, he said.
