Speaker Abbas Officially Declares Ogun House of Reps Seat Vacant

By Gloria Ikibah
The Speaker House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has declared vacant the seat of Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State vacant on Wednesday at plenary.
According to Speaker Abbas, the move was in line with Section 68(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Naijablitznews.com reports that this followed the death of the former Deputy Chief Whip, Honorable Adewunmi Onanuga who died on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
Following this announcement, the electoral body is anticipated to set a date for bye-elections to fill all open positions in both the state and national legislatures.

Currently, five seats in the House of Representatives remain unoccupied—four due to the passing of sitting members and one from Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State, where the former representative, Dennis Idahosa, now serves as the Deputy Governor of the state.
