Oyegun, who led the APC from July 2013 to July 2018 and played a pivotal role in the party’s 2015 victory, has long been seen as an elder statesman with national appeal.

His move to the ADC is widely interpreted as a response to ongoing internal discord within the APC.

Oyegun’s defection adds to the ADC’s momentum, following the earlier additions of retired Air Chief Sadique Abubakar and former senator Oserheimen Osunbor.

According to inside sources, Oyegun, alongside Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal, spearheaded the coalition’s push to adopt ADC over other platforms.
