Doguwa Hails Buhari’s Far-Reaching Contributions to Politics, Governance
…say the late President was a mentor, father figure, statesman

Member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Al-Hassan Ado Doguwa, has described late President, Muhammadu Buhari as a leader who left profound and far-reaching positive impacts on Nigeria’s political space and leadership.
Rep. Doguwa who is also the leader of the Northern Regional Caucus of the House, stated this in a tribute on the late President on Sunday, in Abuja.
Rep. Doguwa noted that, the passing away of certain individuals in the society leaves an irreparable void too deep in the lives of many as the death of President Buhari did to Nigeria and Nigerians.
He said, “Late President Buhari was such a mentor, a father figure, and a statesman whose legacy will endure for generations. He was a man of uncommon integrity, rare honesty and profound dignity; resolute in character, steadfast in purpose, and unwavering in his commitment to personal principles for the greater good of our country.
“His service to Nigeria, spanning more than six decades, was marked by discipline, honesty, and a deep-seated love for the nation. Whether as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, or as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, Buhari’s impact on the Nigerian political space was profound and far-reaching”.
Doguwa said that as military Head of State, late Buhari introduced a regime of discipline and accountability at a time when Nigeria was sliding into corruption and moral decay.
“Although critics saw his methods as stern, his intentions were clearly for the greater good of Nigerians. His military government focused on restoring public confidence, strengthening national institutions, and enforcing public discipline. Those were difficult times, and history will remember that he governed with the conviction that Nigeria must be put on the path of justice.
“As civilian President, Buhari’s government achieved monumental successes in combating corruption, enhancing security, promoting economic development, and enhancing democratic principles, fair play and justice. He ensure unfettered reign of the principles of Separation of Powers between the three arms of Government”, he added.
According him, late President Buhari became the first opposition candidate in Nigeria’s history to defeat a sitting President which he said was a testament to the public’s faith in his personal integrity.
“Elected twice, he led with a sterling commitment to fighting corruption, national security, and infrastructural reinvigoration. His administration laid the groundwork for long-term reforms, investing in rail, road, and energy infrastructure that will serve Nigeria for decades to come. Under his leadership, the fight against Boko Haram was intensified, and the Nigerian military regained considerable grounds in the North-East.
“His commitment to rooting out corruption was unwavering, earning him both criticism and admiration, but always reflecting his sincere belief in Nigeria’s potential to be great”, Doguwa stated.
He further informed that, as Chief Whip during the 8th Assembly, he came closer to President Buhari when he noticed his sterling qualities of being an honest, detribalised and democratic president whose penchant for the welfare of the Nigerian people remained paramount in his mind at all times.
Doguwa recalled that, “During a recent interaction with former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, he said he considered it one of the great honours of his life to have worked during Buhari’s administration as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“He said he witnessed first-hand his unwavering support for the legislature, even when some people sought to manipulate his office for partisan interests. When the political tides became rough and there were attempts to destabilise the 9th National Assembly, President Buhari stood firm, in his belief that only the national interest matters.
“True to his word, he resisted all attempts to undermine the legislative institution, and in doing so, contributed to one of the most stable and productive legislative sessions in Nigeria’s recent memory. His support extended beyond personal; it was institutional and highly principled”.
According to Rep. Doguwa, Buhari first spotted Femi Gbajabiamila on television screen when he was Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.
“But he identified in him characteristics of a man who could lead Nigerian legislative house. So, he easily supported him for Speaker position during his administration.
“Femi Gbajabiamila has lost not just a father. For me he truly lost a fan, a mentor and a personal hero. I remember, Buhari once told me that he simply came to like Femi and wanted him to be the Speaker based on what he saw him doing on the floor of the House as a Minority Leader then.
“He said he loved his parliamentary acumen as well as his outstanding legislative performances, most of which he only viewed and read them on the television and on the pages of Newspapers. Sadly, today, our hero is no more”, he explained.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is warning people not to fall for scams that promise guaranteed immigration results or special selection programs.
In a public advisory on its X handle on Saturday, the department stressed that no lottery, shortcut, or secret program exists that can guarantee anyone will be selected to immigrate to Canada.
IRCC added that no individual or organisation can promise faster processing, priority treatment, or approval of an immigration application.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” the advisory states.
IRCC urged applicants to protect themselves by taking three key steps:
Obtain information about immigration programs only from official Government of Canada sources, be wary of anyone asking for money in exchange for a guaranteed result, and never make payments or provide personal information unless using an official IRCC platform.
The department noted that scammers frequently target people through social media, emails, and phone calls with false claims of special programs or expedited services in return for fees.
“Only authorized IRCC officers can decide immigration applications, and decisions are based solely on eligibility criteria.
“Applicants are advised to verify all information on the official Canada.ca website and to report any suspicious offers,” IRCC added.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has warned licensed private Hajj tour operators against spreading misinformation regarding the allocation of slots for the 2027 Hajj.
In a statement signed by its Head of Information and Publications Division, Shafii Mohammed, NAHCON described allegations of the diversion of 5,000 Hajj slots as completely unfounded.
The commission was reacting to a report published on Friday titled, “Hajj 2027: Private Operators Demand Probe of Diverted 5,000 Slots.”
It noted that critics had presented no evidence to demonstrate that the slot allocation violated Saudi Arabian regulations or the commission’s internal guidelines.
The commission explained that Nigeria’s approved quota of 50,000 slots comprises 35,000 allocated to state boards and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside 15,000 reserved for duly licensed private operators under seven approved lead companies.
It urged aggrieved operators to rely on facts, established regulations, and dispute-resolution channels rather than anonymous allegations.
“The commission is aware of a coordinated and diversionary campaign built around entirely unfounded allegations of Hajj slot diversion.
“Rather than presenting evidence of wrongdoing, the allegations appear designed to shift attention away from the inability of certain operators to comply with the strict regulatory requirements, timelines, and digital upload obligations established by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for the 2027 Hajj,” the statement read.
He added, “It is noteworthy that the report itself is built almost entirely on claims made by unnamed individuals described as Concerned Private Travel Operators, and readers are not informed who these operators are.”
The spokesperson stressed that despite the sensational nature of the report, no documentation had been produced to establish any breach.
He stated, “At no point has it been demonstrated that the allocation of the disputed 5,000 slots violated Saudi Arabian Hajj regulations, NAHCON guidelines, or any policy governing Hajj operations in Nigeria.
“The concerns raised are largely framed around perceptions and commercial grievances rather than documented breaches of established rules or procedures.
“Indeed, the report itself acknowledges that NAHCON provided a clear explanation regarding the allocation process. The commission clarified that Nigeria’s approved allocation for the 2027 Hajj is 50,000 slots, comprising 35,000 slots for the states and the Federal Capital Territory and 15,000 slots for duly licensed private Hajj tour operators.”
Mohammed maintained that the 15,000 private-sector slots were properly distributed among licensed operators functioning under seven approved lead entities in compliance with Nigerian and Saudi rules.
He emphasised that all participating companies were registered, licensed, and fully subject to regulatory sanctions where defaults occur.
Highlighting the immediate task facing operators, the commission pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s Nusuk-Masar digital portal closes irrevocably on September 26, 2026.
“The Saudi authorities have made it explicitly clear that the digital gateway for uploading prospective pilgrims’ biometric and registration data closes irrevocably on September 26, 2026. This deadline is a directive of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and not of NAHCON. The commission has no authority whatsoever to extend it by even a minute.
“Unfortunately, rather than expediting the registration of their clients, uploading biometric information, and remitting funds within the stipulated timelines, some operators have chosen to devote considerable energy to fabricating conspiracy theories and promoting narratives intended to conceal their own operational deficiencies,” the statement read.
NAHCON warned that it would not hesitate to impose stiff penalties—including licence revocation, suspension, and blacklisting—on defaulting tour operators.
It also advised prospective pilgrims registered through private travel agencies to confirm that their biometric and registration details are successfully uploaded before the September 26 deadline.
The commission noted that high-stakes commercial interests often trigger public campaigns, lobbying, and media pressure to overturn administrative actions, but insisted that resistance to regulatory reform must not be mistaken for evidence of illegality.
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has removed one of his legislative aides, Umar Alhassan, following a social media post perceived as disrespectful to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Alhassan, also known as King Indara, was relieved of his position after posts on his Facebook page, including the phrase “Abba Must Go”, were brought to the attention of the Deputy Senate President’s office.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Friday by Barau’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shitu Madaki Kunchi, with the removal taking effect from September 18, 2026.
According to the statement, the posts were considered inconsistent with the expected conduct of political appointees and officials serving in Barau’s office.
Kunchi said aides and other appointees were expected to demonstrate discipline, respect public office holders and encourage constructive engagement among different levels of government.
He said the action was taken to protect the standards and values expected of officials working under the Deputy President of the Senate.
The statement added that the decision followed what the office described as conduct that breached the principles of discipline, respect and decorum expected of a legislative aide.
Barau’s office consequently announced Alhassan’s removal as Special Legislative Assistant, bringing his tenure in the Deputy Senate President’s office to an end.
