The approval came during a budget defense session held in Abuja on Tuesday, where RMAFC’s management, led by its Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, appeared before the committee.

In his presentation, Shehu explained the breakdown of the proposed spending:₦20.6 billion will go to personnel costs, ₦8.9 billion is allocated for overhead, while the bulk of the funds ₦75.5 billion, representing 71.8 percent of the total budget has been set aside for capital projects.

The RMAFC boss applauded the committee for pushing through recent amendments to the RMAFC Act, noting that the legislative changes had strengthened the commission’s capacity to perform its statutory duties more effectively.

The Chairman of the House Committee, Rep. James Faleke, said that the panel had carefully reviewed the budget proposal and expressed satisfaction with the figures presented.

Faleke assured that the committee would, in line with its oversight responsibilities, closely monitor the execution of the approved budget to ensure proper implementation.

Speaking further, he noted that the National Assembly would commence its annual recess later in the week. Upon resumption, the committee expects the budget to have achieved 30 to 40 percent implementation.

With the committee’s approval, the appropriation bill is now set to move to the Committee of the Whole for its third reading, after which it will be forwarded to the President for assent.
