The 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers is scheduled to take place from 10–12 December 2025 at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, where Foreign Ministers and Senior Officials from across West Africa will gather to address the region’s pressing political, security, and economic concerns.
A statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Tuesday in Abuja, disclosed that Nigeria will be represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is expected to join her counterparts in discussions designed to strengthen regional cooperation, reinforce stability, and drive forward ECOWAS’ longstanding integration agenda.
According to the him, the meeting will serve as a strategic platform for Member States to review the political and security climate, evaluate progress on Community programmes, and adopt decisions that will guide ECOWAS institutions in the year ahead. The deliberations will centre on peace and security, democratic governance, trade facilitation, economic collaboration, and ongoing institutional reforms.
From the outset, the Session is expected to reinforce West Africa’s collective resolve to confront evolving threats while safeguarding previous achievements in integration. Council members will also examine the ECOWAS Commission’s budget and administrative matters, alongside reports from various specialised technical committees.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu will engage fellow ministers on expanding cooperative frameworks, enhancing diplomatic coordination, and deepening people-to-people connections across the sub-region—an effort the Ministry says aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to “strengthening collaborative mechanisms, enhancing diplomatic coordination, and deepening people-to-people linkages across the region.”
The three-day gathering will conclude on Friday, 12 December 2025, with the adoption of key decisions that will shape the agenda for the 68th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for 14 December 2025.
