As Christians across Nigeria mark the Easter season, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has issued a heartfelt appeal for citizens to embrace hope, unity, and a shared sense of humanity in the face of ongoing national challenges.
In a message to commemorate the season, Kalu described Easter as a profound symbol of sacrifice, renewal, and the victory of hope over despair. He urged Nigerians to reflect on the enduring lessons embodied in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Deputy Speaker called on Christians and indeed all Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayer for the nation and for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that the country would overcome its socio-economic difficulties.
He stressed the urgent need for unity, urging citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divisions in pursuit of peace and sustainable development.
“Easter speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the boundless power of hope. It calls on us to love one another, to stand united, and to uphold our shared humanity, especially in difficult times,” Kalu said.
Turning to leadership, Kalu challenged public office holders at all levels to prioritise policies rooted in inclusiveness, fairness, and the welfare of the people. He emphasised that genuine leadership must be driven by compassion and a commitment to service.
He also encouraged Nigerians to extend kindness to the less privileged and vulnerable, noting that even small acts of compassion could collectively help build a more caring and cohesive society.
Reaffirming the role of the National Assembly, Kalu pledged continued legislative efforts aimed at strengthening national unity, boosting economic growth, and improving the overall well-being of citizens.
He wished Christians a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration, while offering prayers for sustained progress, unity, and stability across the country.
