Yobe business community holds special prayer against inflation, high cost of living in Nigeria

Irked by the relatively high cost of living in Nigeria, the United Marketers Association Potiskum, UMAPO, organized a special prayer seeking God’s intervention in the current economic realities in the country.
The prayer held at Government Day Secondary School, GDSS, playground in Potiskum town attracted dozens of men, women, children as well as religious scholars.
They observed two units of congregational prayer seeking solace from God as the situation seems to defy man-made solutions.
Briefing newsmen at the venue of the special prayer, the Executive Chairman, UMAPO Potiskum, Nasiru Alhaji Mato, said they were compelled by the current economic crisis to organize the prayers to ask God for succor.
According to him “God says that anytime you are facing challenges, you should go back to Him and seek for His forgiveness and way out.
“Nowadays, things are becoming difficult, people are hungry and life is becoming unbearable day by day; the cost of living is shooting up that is why we gathered people under our platform to pray for relief”.
He added that since the removal of fuel subsidy, prices of foodstuffs and other essential commodities have been increasing, leading to unbearable hardships and this is coming as there is high unemployment rate in the country.
When asked about the Federal Government’s palliative program, he said it is a temporary move and not a sustainable solution.
Mato appealed to the federal, state, and local governments to constitute a committee that would come up with practical solutions to stabilise the economy and find a sustainable way of reducing the high cost of living in Nigeria.

SAD! Lady Loses 3-Year-Old Son Hours After Allowing Father Take Him for Weekend Visit

By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to share the heart rending story of how she lost her three-year-old son hours after allowing his father to take him for the weekend.
The sad mother, who had single-handedly raised her son after being abandoned during pregnancy, expressed deep sorrow and regret over her decision to let his father back into their lives.
According to her, the child’s father had denied responsibility when she was pregnant and made no effort to be part of their son’s life until he returned from abroad, got married, and sought forgiveness. In an attempt to foster a relationship between father and son, she allowed him to take the boy for a weekend visit—an act she now deeply regrets.
Tragically, less than nine hours after leaving with his father, the little boy drowned in a deep well. The devastated mother, who had just returned from work, was met with the shocking news that her only child was gone forever.
In a post, she poured out her grief, questioning why such a tragedy had befallen her innocent child.
“Junior was only 3; he didn’t deserve to leave this world so soon. God, why?” she lamented.
May the soul of the little boy rest in peace.

Court sentences two Ekiti teachers to 44-year in prison for raping pupils

A High Court in Ekiti, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has sentenced two teachers to 44 years of imprisonment for committing rape, without the option of a fine.
During the proceedings, the prosecution, represented by Kunle-Shina Adeyemi, stated that the defendants, Gbenga Ajibola, 43, and Olaofe Ayodele, 52, were charged before Justice Adeniyi Familoni on March 2, 2022, with three counts related to rape and the misuse of their authority.
The court was informed that the defendants had, in November 2019, raped two female students aged 17 and 15, whose names have been withheld for privacy reasons.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 31(2) of the Childs Right Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her testimony before the court, one of the victims said that one of the convicts, Ajibola, was her computer teacher, and always disturbing her while in class.
“On this fateful day, he told me to be in mufti and gave me N200 to go and wait for him in front of a filling station along Bank Road. He later came there alongside Mr Olaofe, but before they came, one of my classmates also met me there, he told me that Mr Olaofe asked her to wait here for him. When they came, we all left for a hotel, around the Oke-Ila area of Ado Ekiti, on getting there, we were taken to different rooms where Mr Ajibola had sexual intercourse with me. After that day, he continued to disturb me, when I could no longer bear it, I narrated what happened to my mother who later took the matter up,” she narrated.
To prove his case, the prosecutor called four witnesses and tendered statements of the victims and defendants, medical reports, as well as report of the panel of enquiry among others as exhibits.
Also, Counsel to the defendants, Lawrence Fasanmi called six witnesses to prove his case.
In his judgement, Justice Familoni said, the defendants shared their minds and mulled the voice of conscience as they took advantage of the victims with reckless abandonment.
“They deserved severe panel sanction for their misdeeds to serve as a warning and deterrent to others who may want to follow their footsteps,”.
Justice Familoni thereby sentenced the defendants, Ajibola Gbenga and Olaofe Ayodele to 20 years imprisonment each without an option of fine on count one and two years each on count two without option of fine, making 44 years imprisonment, saying that it should run concurrently.
