The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley, a 22-year-old final year student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). According to reports, Chinagorom was stabbed to death by Francis Marvellous, a 21-year-old 300-level student of Imo State University (IMSU), during a heated argument last Thursday night.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, disclosed this to journalists in Owerri, clarifying that the fatal altercation between Chinagorom and Francis led to the latter using a knife against the former. Contrary to initial rumors suggesting involvement of an individual of Hausa Fulani descent, the police dismissed such claims.
The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to spearhead the case, ensuring that all suspects and purveyors of false information face legal repercussions.
The police operation swiftly led to the arrest of Francis Marvellous, who hails from Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State. He was apprehended in response to a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of FUTO, retired DSP Patrick Egwu. The suspect was nearly subjected to mob justice before police intervention.
Chinagorom, a final year student of FUTO and a member of the university’s Man O’ War Unit, tragically lost his life in the incident. His body was promptly taken to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, where medical professionals confirmed his demise. The deceased has been deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.
This unfortunate incident underscores the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and underscores the importance of law enforcement in maintaining public safety within educational institutions.
