ROAD Diversion: FG to begin repair works on Long Bridge Monday
The Ministry of Works, under the directive of the Federal Government, has unveiled plans to commence repairs on the damaged expansion joints of the Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
In a statement released by Mrs. Olukorede Keisha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, it was announced that the repair works are scheduled to kick off from 7 a.m. on Monday, March 4, and will continue until March 25, 2024.
During this period, commuters traveling to and from Lagos via the Long Bridge will encounter lane restrictions, with only two lanes available on each side of the bridge. This arrangement aims to facilitate the contractor’s efforts to carry out repairs on the remaining two lanes of the carriageways.
Keisha emphasized, “All road users are advised to exercise patience and adhere to lane discipline both approaching the Long Bridge and within the narrowed sections on the bridge.”
To mitigate traffic congestion during the repair period, the earth road adjacent to the Shagamu bound carriageway will be made accessible for motor vehicles, serving as an alternative route. Other road users are encouraged to explore alternative routes to ease congestion and facilitate smooth traffic flow.
The Federal Ministry of Works assures the public of its commitment to completing the repair works promptly while ensuring minimal disruption to commuters’ journeys.
