A mother of five died after a botched Brazilian butt lift.
The family of a Tennessee mother of five has filed a lawsuit against the doctor and the surgical center.
Erica Russell, 33, died on June 16, 2021, after Dr. John Sampson pierced her intestines, bladder, liver, and abdominal wall during the procedure.
Russell died when a fat deposit clogged her circulation and caused ‘fatal cardiac arrest.’
Russell’s surgery began at 8.31pm, according to a news statement from Stewart Tilghman Fox & Bianchi & Cain, the law firm representing her family. She died slightly more than two hours later.
‘What happened to Ms. Russell should have never happened. This is assembly line medicine and that’s what killed her,’ Attorney Michael Levine said.
Sampson has subsequently been barred from doing Brazilian butt lift surgery at Seduction Cosmetic Center in Coral Gables, Florida, and fined $20,000, but he has been allowed to maintain his license.
Seduction Cosmetic Center charges $3,500 for this operation and promotes additional cosmetic surgeries such as breast augmentations, stomach tucks, liposuction, vaginal rejuvenation, and a variety of others.
According to the lawsuit, Sampson conducted six treatments at the cosmetic clinic before beginning Russell’s botched surgery, totaling 14 hours.
Further inquiry revealed that Sampson was not authorized to conduct procedures at the cosmetics facility, despite Russell’s signature on paperwork before the treatment stating that he had plastic and cosmetic rights at Seduction as ‘Designated Physician.’
During Russell’s treatment, Sampson pierced the mother’s intestines, liver, bladder, and abdominal wall with a cannula- a tube used for sucking fat out of the body.
State authorities believe the doctor broke the’minimum standard of care’ by injecting fat under her gluteal muscle and ‘deep gluteal planes’ during her procedure.
At 10.50 p.m., the fatal injuries caused extensive bleeding in her abdominal cavity and a pulmonary fat embolism, according to the legal company.
She died when a fat deposit clogged her circulation and caused ‘fatal cardiac arrest.’
Sampson has subsequently been deleted off the cosmetic center’s social media and website, although his personal Instagram bio still indicates that he works at Seduction.
