Running Mate: Okpebholo May Choose Ogbeide-Ihama As PDP Legacy Group Set to Defect to APC

Ahead of the September 2024 governorship election in Edo state, there are strong indications that members of the Legacy Group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have perfected plans to dump the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Legacy Group, which is headed by the party’s South South Zonal national Vice Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih is presently at daggers drawn with the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki headed faction.

Angered by the latest triumph of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, a member of Obaseki Group in the recent governorship primary of the main opposition party, members of Legacy Group are said to be warning up to defect en masse to the APC.

A close source disclosed that a two time former member of the House of Representatives (Oredo Constituency), Dr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama may be chosen as running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the ruling party’s governorship candidate, if all goes well.

The source explained that members of the group, in their thousands, are presently ironing out differences to pave way for their mass defection to APC, following the withdrawal of Dr. Ogbeide-Ihama from the governorship race of the PDP.

He added: “The choice of Ogbeide-Ihama will be a master stroke for Senator Okpebholo. Ogbeide-Ihama is a household name in Oredo, Edo south and in the entire state. This combination is fantastic.”

The former federal lawmaker will however have to contend with ex-Chairman of Oredo Local Government Mr.Osaro Obaze, who is also reportedly being considered as running mate to the APC candidate.
