Just in: Despite political logjam, Wike says my commitment to Rivers development and peace remains unshakeable

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has said his commitment to peace and development for Rivers State remains unshakeable.

Wike made this assertion despite political misunderstanding between him and his successor, Governor Fubara.

The former Rivers number one citizen however laments that some politicians have made it their duty to escalate this misunderstanding because of what they stand to financially benefit from it.

Wike spoke as Guest of Honour during the Church Thanksgiving Service and Grand Reception organised by the people of Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency to celebrate their son, Rep Kingsley O. Chinda, who is currently the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

The occasion was personally attended by the leadership of the House led by the Speaker of House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abass who poured so much encomiums on Rep Kingsley Chinda, describing him as one of the best Legislators in the House of Representatives who has helped to stabilize the House and coordinated other members of Opposition Parties for smooth and peaceful running of the House of Representatives.

The former Governor Wike who was visibly unhappy with some Politicians of Rivers State who he accused of misleading and giving wrong advice to his successor, took time to remind Rivers People of how he took risk against very strong oppositions by some Chieftains of his Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to adopt and support a Candidate from the Riverine Part of Rivers in order to give opportunity to all parts of the State to govern Rivers State which informed his decision to adopt and support the incumbent Governor Fubara.

According to him, these same chieftains of PDP who were vehemently opposed to his choice of Siminalayi Fubara are the same people who are now everywhere around the Governor, creating more crisis in order to benefit financially from him.

He further disclosed how he came under immense pressure to support a candidate from his Ikwerre ethnic group to be his successor but he did not succumb.

He further used the opportunity to remind the people of Rivers State of how during his tenure, he made Rivers State to be recognized as a major force in the Politics of Nigeria such that Rivers State must be consulted in critical decision making in the politics of Nigeria.

He also reminded the people of the State of the Infrastructural Revolution he brought about between 2019 and 2023 which include but not limited to the twelve Flyovers, Roads, the best Law School, Judicial Institute, Magistrate Courts, Trans-Kalabari Road, Opobo Road.

His regret also, according to him, is how he successfully fought and won the legal battle he instituted against the Government of Imo State over the ceding of some Oil Wells to Imo State by Federal Government but that Rivers State is now being denied the revenues accruing from these Oil Wells since he left as Governor.

He finally pleaded with the people of Rivers State to keep the Peace and thanked the State leadership of PDP and APC who were present at the Event and said it was proof that Rivers State remains united.
