Constitutional Amendments: Ensure Autonomy Of LGAs, Dr Nnamani Tasks Legislators

Dr Davidson Nnajiofor Nnamani has tasked both the National and States’ Assemblies to ensure that the on-going constitutional amendments bring to an end the contentious issue of local governments’ autonomy.

He believed that, “it is only the full autonomy of local area councils that can bring about effective grassroots developments in the country. “The states are stifling the local governments and until their grips on the councils are lifted there will be no meaningful developments in the rural areas’”

Dr Nnamoni, a former Governorship aspirant of the Labour Party in Enugu State in last 2023 general elections stated these in Ikem , the Headquarters of Isi Uzo Local Government Area on Friday while addressing All Progressives’ Congress, (APC) faithfuls on his return journey to the party.

Dr Nnamani who holds doctorate degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy, (Africa’s topmost Military University) was a founding member of APC in Isi Uzo and indeed Enugu State before his defection to Labour Party last year.

The Isi Uzo Local Government’s Chairman of the party, Paul Olinya and the ward chairman of Ikem ward one both expressed delight in Dr Nnamani’s return stressing that he was not just a founding member but one of the strong pillars of APC in Enugu State.

Olinya declared, “we are indeed happy to welcome our brother and his supporters back to our great party and l have no doubt that your return with your loyalists will help strengthen APC not just in Isi Uzo but in the state as well”.
