Three men have been arrested for rustling a total of 132 rams in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The suspects are Mohammed Abdullahi Chumo, 30, of Ukoro, Kwara State, Aliyu Salihu, 20, of Gwadabawa, Sokoto State and Arzika Ahmadu, 25, also of Gwadabawa, Sokoto State.
Spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He explained that they conspired and rustled 132 rams from two victims who were grazing the rams around Manigi area of Mashegu LGA.
“Fortunately, on 14 March, 2024, one of the victims sighted a member of the gang, Chumo, at Zungeru Market with six of the rams in an attempt to sell them. The victim raised an alarm,” Abiodun said.
He disclosed that immediately, the suspect was arrested and led the Police team to Jimi village where other rams were kept.
Aliyu and Arzika were subsequently arrested.
The suspects have been transferred to the Crack Squad Unit of the Police Command for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
The police spokesman added that the rams have been released to the rightful owner.
