The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for 2023 Nigerian general elections, Peter Obi, has declared his support for the party’s standard bearer in Edo, Olumide Akpata, ahead of the September 21 governorship poll.
This comes on the heels of the division among his supporters popularly called OBidient Movement on who to support between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo and LP candidate, Olumide Akpata.
Addressing Nigerians on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi described Akpata as “a very credible candidate” urging his supporters to give the former NBA President their maximum support.
The former Anambra Governor also promised to campaign for the LP standard bearer as soon as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the electioneering open.
“I’m still in the Labour Party and I have to support our candidate in Edo (Akpata),” he responded when asked to clarify his position on Edo politics.
Recently, Akpata held a closed-door meeting with the Labour Party national leader.
