Lagos Govt To Seal Supermarkets Over Non-Disclosure Of Product Price

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has issued a stern warning to supermarkets and grocery stores within the state regarding the omission of price tags on products.

This cautionary stance by LASCOPA seeks to uphold transparency and safeguard consumers against potential price exploitation. The absence of price tags can lead to confusion and inconvenience during transactions, undermining consumer rights and contravening the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency Law.

Mr. Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager of LASCOPA, underscored the significance of adhering to regulations, emphasizing that the lack of price tags deprives consumers of the necessary information to make informed purchasing decisions.

He reiterated that such practices are in direct violation of the Consumer Protection Act, which mandates the clear display of prices for goods and services.

Solebo emphasized that failure to comply with the law would result in fines as stipulated by consumer protection laws.

Furthermore, he warned that LASCOPA would not hesitate to seal off supermarkets found guilty of failing to display price tags on their products.

In urging consumers to play an active role in enforcing compliance, Solebo encouraged them to report any instances of non-compliance to LASCOPA through social media platforms or dedicated phone lines: 08124993885, 09064323154, and 08092509777.
