In a disturbing turn of events, the residence of a former Nigerian Governor was set on fire by enraged youths, sparking tension in the Gboko area of Benue State.
Hoodlums wreaked havoc as they targeted the home of Late Aper Aku, the former Governor of the state. Fortunately, occupants were evacuated safely before the assailants torched the building.
Deborah Aku, daughter of the late governor, recounted how the police intervened to rescue them from the premises before the situation escalated further.
The troubling incident stems from a previous confrontation in March when a man wielding a cutlass threatened the household, alleging that his goat died after drinking water from their premises. Despite reporting the issue to the police and seeking legal recourse, the family faced another assault on Monday morning.
Armed with weapons, over 30 individuals besieged the house, vandalizing property, and even killing their dog before setting the house ablaze. Although the police managed to rescue the occupants, they were outnumbered by the assailants.
Investigations are underway, with authorities urged to address the escalating security concerns in the area. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, stressing the importance of thorough investigation.
Mkeenem Moses, Senior Special Assistant to the Benue Governor, strongly condemned the attack, calling for swift action to prevent future assaults in the region.
