JUST-IN: Court Stops NERC, KEDCO From Implementing New Electricity Tariff
The Federal High Court sitting in Kano has issued an interim order stopping the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) from implementing the new increased electricity tariff for Band A consumers in the DisCo’s franchise area.
Naijablitznews.com recalled that NERC had recently mandated electricity distribution companies to charge Band A consumers higher tariffs to ensure a stable power supply for those who are able to afford it. However, many Nigerians criticised NERC for migrating most consumers to Band A while still experiencing unstable electricity supply.
However, Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano, on Thursday, granted the interim order in response to an ex-parte motion brought by A.B. Mahmoud, SAN, representing Super Sack Company Limited, BBY Sacks Limited, Mama Sannu Industries Limited, Dala Foods Nigeria Limited, Tofa Textile Limited, and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Limited (MAN), all as Applicants.
The ruling restrained NERC and KEDCO from implementing the tariff increase, which was scheduled to take effect this month, pending a hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The order further prohibited the defendants from intimidating or threatening to disconnect the Applicants’ electricity supply for non-acceptance of the new tariff.

#OndoDecides2024: APC congratulates Aiyedatiwa, applauds Ondo electorate
By Francesca Hangeior
The All Progressives Congress has congratulated the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his re-election in the just-concluded governorship election.
Aiyedatiwa won the election, having polled a total of 366,781 votes across all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
He defeated his closest rival — Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 117,845 votes.
In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Sunday, and made available to PUNCH Online, the party described Aiyedatiwa as a “clear attestation” that his administration’s policies “resonated deeply with the electorate.”
The statement read, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) heartily congratulates the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his re-election.
“Your Excellency’s resounding victory in the just-concluded Ondo State gubernatorial election is a clear attestation that your administration’s policies and programmes and campaign message of hope and consolidation have resonated deeply with the electorate.
