The Kano State Police Command has unveiled a 60-man squad comprising trained and fully equipped personnel tasked with safeguarding vulnerable primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the state.
This initiative, known as the Special Schools Protection Police Squad, aligns with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) strategy to ensure protection for schools, approached from a community policing perspective.
Commissioner of Police in Kano, Usaini Muhammed Gumel, who said that was part of his achievements under one year, added that the school protection squad aims to create a conducive learning environment and provide maximum security for children.
Gumel also said the command has arrested and prosecuted over 3,000 criminals for various offences, including kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, human trafficking, illicit drug dealings, and thuggery in the year under review.
