The political logjam is getting tense in Rivers State as it gradually tilts towards a warp when the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC directed the State House of Assembly factional members to immediately initiate the process of impeaching the state governor.
This was made known to press men on Tuesday by the Rivers caretaker committee, CTC of the party led by Tony Okocha, in Port Harcourt.
Meantime, Mr Siminalayi had severely tongue lashed the APC, saying the Assembly members no longer existed as legislators in the face of the law.
Reacting to the governor’s outbursts, the Rivers State APC caretaker committee called for actions to impeach the governor
The All Progressive Congress however gave reasons why the impeachment process became imperative given that governor Siminalayi clear refusal to accept the peace agreement initiated by President Bola Tinubu between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, some months ago and his recent declaration of the Assembly members seats vacant.
In another development, Fubara stressed that he honoured the peace accord by President Bola Tinubu following the political rancor that erupted in the state last year, just for peace to reign.
Remember that Fubara, had with the APC lawmakers throat before he declared the State House of Assembly members seats vacant.
The caretaker committee chairman of the Rivers State APC, Chief Tony Okocha, reacted to the statement of the governor that it was equal to re-writing the constitution of Nigeria.
“What the governor was insinuating clearly is that he is governing the State without laws. That Rivers State runs an executive arm and judiciary. So, what that implies is simply nonsense.
“You can imagine the tendencies of a lawlessness. As an opposition party in Rivers State, we will not keep quiet as an opposition party.
“The governor said that the President’s peace agreement which he signed was not constitutional but was just mere a political solution. But he signed the agreement and proclamation in a friendly environment and had the opportunity to speak there but thanked Mr President.
Meanwhile, Johnson affirmed that Okocha lacked the morality to speak about the state government, pointing that he was not a legitimate member of the APC.
Johnson also noted that “It is not going to be an easy journey. They should not think of embarking on it because Rivers State people will repel them. because it is even absurd to think of it.
“As far as we are concerned, they do not even have the locus standi to do that. They should not even bother to start it, because section 109 (g) has settled the case.
“It says if an assembly member defects from his own party that brought him to power, he automatically loses his seat. They have done that and it is settled. Our constitution is the grand norm.
“The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, SSG, who doubles as the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, yesterday, disclosed a 20-day long programme of activities which will kick start next Tuesday.
“To mark this one year anniversary, there will be a massive projects to be commissioned and other activities.
