The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the circumstances leading to the untimely death of 4 years old Miguel Ovoke, a pupil of Brickhall School in Abuja.
This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance by Rep. Kelechi Nwogu, lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency of River State.
Rep. Nwogu noted that 4 years old Miguel Ovoke was dropped in the school by his mother on the 24th of April, 2024;
According to PUNCH, “the death certificate dated April 24, 2024, issued by Excel Specialist Hospital, Abuja, which was sighted by our correspondent, Ovoke was brought to the hospital by his teachers around 11am in an unconscious state.
“The medical report, signed by Dr. Akinwande Ajayi, on behalf of the medical director, indicated that he was brought in, “on account of aspiration on meat while feeding at school.”
The lawmaker was disturbed that the young innocent child was reported dead under suspicious circumstances which the school was unable to explain.
The motion reads: “Worried that the parents of the deceased boy alleged a coverup by the school management in collaboration with the Nigerian Police;
“Concerned about the traumatic effects of the sudden death of young Miguel Ovoke on the family and other classmates.
“Further concerned about the negative image that the act will leave on our country in the comity of nations if such is not addressed”.
The lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased young Miguel Ovoke and other children who lost their lives under similar circumstances.
The House unanimously adopted the motion to constitute a special Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the untimely death of the young Miguel Ovoke within 4 weeks and report back for further legislative action.
