FG Unveils Master Plan To Tackle Energy Crisis

The federal government has unveiled a national energy master plan to address the challenges of energy facing the country.

The documents: “National Energy Master Plan” and “National Energy Policy”, which were gazetted for strategic planning, coordination and implementation of national policies, were unveiled yesterday in Abuja by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN).

Director General of ECN, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, said the documents would help the masses, stakeholders and investors to invest in energy and would also advise the nation on the best sources of energy to use.

“If we must guarantee energy security, then we must diversify. So, we are saying that we have so many sources of energy that are yet untapped, and these documents are also giving the roadmap to solar, renewable energy.

“The documents also highlight the best ways of efficiently using our energy that will be saved, instead of just concentrating on generation alone,” Abdullahi said.

He said in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government is determined to address the lingering problems in the energy sector with a view to guaranteeing clean, affordable and sustainable energy in the country.

He said, “With the release of these gazettes President Bola Tinubu has emboldened the Commission as it has never been done by any government since its establishment and the nation’s energy sector will therefore be better informed, managed and the sub-sectoral policies well focused and driven through a coordinated compass for the overall good of the nation.”
