Suspected terrorist informant arrested in Zamfara

A vigilante group in Zamfara state known as Askarawa has apprehended an informant, Hamisu Abdullahi, who helped bandits to coordinate attacks.

It was gathered that he was arrested on Monday, May 13, 2024, in Kabrawa under the Farfaru emirate in Maru Local Government Area of the state and handed over to the security.

Intelligence sources told security analyst, Zagazola Makama, that Hamisu’s spying activities and that of his accomplices were responsible for the attacks on troops and towns in Maru and other LGA in Zamfara state.

“On interrogation, he confessed to having revealed troops’ movements and position to his bandits collaborators. Investigation is however ongoing to unravel the network of local informants whose nefarious activities have endangered troops on clearance operations in Zamfara state,” the source said.

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects and recovered an operational vehicle.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who made this known in a statement on Tuesday, May 14, said the suspects, Chibuieze Orji, 52, and Jibrin Mohammed, 45, are members of an armed robbery gang usually known as to as ‘one chance’

According to the PPRO, the suspects who operate on Akwanga-Keffi-Abuja expressway, were arrested by police operatives attached to the Anguwan Lambu Division in Keffi LGA of the state.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects usually pose as taxi drivers to pick unsuspecting passengers, drive away to unknown destinations, and dispossess them of money and other belongings, after which the victims are abandoned while they take to flight,” the statement read.

“The suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime and said they have been operating for over 10yrs and robbed a lot of people. They further stated that they were recently released from Shendam prison, Plateau State, for similar offence after serving their prison term.

“Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota carina II vehicle with registration number Abuja CO 212 ABC, one Axe and Hammer,” the statement made available to newsmen reads further

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada has ordered that the suspects be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation; and assured members of the public that the Command shall be relentless in its fight against crime in the State and solicit their collaboration.”
