Death Toll Climbs To 15 In Kano Mosque Assault

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of 15 individuals following an attack on a mosque in Gadan village, located in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The assailant, identified as Shafi’u Abubakar, attacked the mosque on Wednesday, May 15. He reportedly doused the mosque with petrol, locked its doors, and set it on fire, trapping approximately 40 worshippers inside.

The motive for the attack is believed to stem from a family dispute over inheritance.

Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that 15 out of the 24 victims have succumbed to their injuries.

Initially, reports indicated that one worshipper had died, but the death toll rose as more victims passed away while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

Commissioner Gumel stated that the incident took place during dawn prayers at the mosque, resulting in 24 worshippers being injured.

He added that the injured victims are currently being treated at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
