Boundary Dispute: Amidst Tension, Ekiti Govt Pleads for Calm following attack in Eda Oniyo

Following a violent attack on Eda Oniyo community in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, the Ekiti State Government has appealed for calm and restraint. The situation is now under control, thanks to swift action by security agencies, who are working to prevent further escalation.

Tragically, one community member lost their life in the Saturday attack, which stemmed from a long-standing boundary dispute with Obo Ayegunle in Kwara State. Acccording to the reports, armed men from Obo Ayegunle attacked Eda Oniyo, leading to a surge in tensions.

However, security forces responded promptly, deploying soldiers, police, and Amotekun Corps members to contain the crisis. Additional troops have since been deployed to protect the community, while the Army formation in Kwara State has been contacted to secure the border.

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed that it is committed to maintaining peace and security across the State. Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, urges calm while security agencies take charge, assuring that perpetrators will face justice. He offers condolences to the family of the deceased and prays for quick recovery for those affected.

The government’s swift response aims to prevent further violence and ensure resident safety. The situation is being closely monitored, with efforts underway to resolve the boundary dispute and prevent any future attacks.
